After another horrendous week of shocking news, it would be fantastic to just float , go to our soul path and refresh our mind and body. We are having to accept too many disasters out of our control, that I really dislike. Our world earthly leaders, are disregarding civil, humane treatment to the people and our planet. She’s a Sun, possibly New Moon and Venus in Libra while he is a Taurus Sun with probably a Virgo Moon and Venus in Pisces/Aries so they are very different personalities.
Their relationship chart always did look very muddled with a Venus conjunct Uranus and Neptune sextile Pluto and probably square the composite Moon. So very blow hot, blow cold, prone to disruptions and highly strung. There’s also an argumentative not very sensitive or sympathetic Mars square Saturn.
She’s got her Sec Progressed Venus conjunct her Pluto at the moment so she’ll be emotionally very intense. Though with her Sun moving by Progression/Solar Arc to conjunct her Pluto in eighteen months/two years time she’s also going to be very stuck. She’s also got tr Pluto opposing her Solar Arc Mars later this year/2011 and tr Pluto also conjunct her Uranus in 11/12 – so there’ll be a great many ups and downs in the near future. Their relationship chart also has tr Pluto conjunct Uranus in 11/12 and conjunct Venus in 12/13 – plus tr Saturn this autumn squaring Uranus, Venus, Neptune and tr Uranus catching up to the squares come 11/12/13. dbla – i agree with marjorie.. the capricorn/cancer axis seems to rely on role playing more and it is thought of as the ”parental” axis for obvious reasons connected to this. it is very different with the aries/libra axis where everyone is generally considered an equal – haha – equinox being the exact opposite of solstice! the cap/cancer axis, or the midheaven/nadir axis like these unequal relationships, where someone supposedly knows more and is an authority on this or that kind of thing..
with saturn in capricorn, there is more of a reliance on this due saturns tendency to operate from a position of weakness first, and strength eventually if one works on it.. my brother has this position, being born in the early 60’s.. he tends to look up to authority figures.. his brother – me, is the exact opposite! i try to take them down, as i have pluto square my ascendant/descendant axis – which is the aries/libra axis symbolically speaking anyway…
i think it is only a problem with any capricorn placement, (and saturn would generally be a problem anyway at least initially) when the planet in cap or cancer is in a conflicted position in the chart… if a chart has an emphasis on either the cap/cancer signs, or the midheaven/nadir axis then i think you see this.. if the chart is set up in a more conflicted manner, then i think it becomes more of a problem… so, to finalize, something i should have done much earlier!!! – saturn in cap is more predisposed to looking for a father figure when young, but becoming more of an authority when older.. everything depends so much on the rest of the chart!!!

But the relationship chart also has a Saturn trine Pluto so it does have a hang-on-in-there streak about it.
Both of them have their ups and downs in the next few months as he has tr Saturn square Pluto hitting his Jupiter Uranus conjunction which will stifle his enthusiasm somewhat; and she has tr Saturn square tr Pluto picking up her Pluto square Mars Saturn – and indeed tr Pluto continues to oppose her Mars and square her Pluto till late 2011 – so a good many difficult adjustments will be needed on her side.
But she looks set for a highly positive, successful 2013/14 as tr Pluto is sextile her Jupiter and even before then tr Pluto is trine her Taurus Sun in 11/12 which will help her get her act together.

dbla, to extend my thoughts on the saturn in cap position in obama’s chart.. i don’t see that being where the crisis is.. squares are indicative of this same search for a parental figure and in obama’s case his sun on the 7th cusp is essentially square neptune in the 10th area.. forget houses and just think of the signs anyway.. we have a square between sun and neptune which indicates a weak – neptune) sense of self – sun) which may be the direct result of an absence – neptune) of a father type figure – sun) in his life… i don’t see his problem as the saturn in cap..
now on to the mackenzie-philips chart… here we have – a saturn in capricorn.. we do have a situation where her father was very central to her life in ways that were really unhelpful to put it mildly… i am usually not drawn to these types of examinations, as they are depressing.. however since the topic at hand was saturn in capricorn, i happened to note how central it is in her chart.. it is the focal planet in her chart as i see it… it is at the top of a t square involving an ‘i want to please’ opposition of venus/moon.. the sun in scorpio also feeds directly into this pattern via 45/135 aspects, but it is saturn in capricorn that is really the focal planet.. the rising uranus also feeds into this saturn as they are about 135 apart.. uranus is also 90 to the sun.. so many planets all connected together here – chiron opposite uranus as well..
saturn rules the 7th house.. perhaps this is a weak father figure too, or a search for a father figure as the one she had was not really the usual garden variety kind.. anyway, going back to the general comment about saturn in cap, i am not sure it applies all the time, as i said and with obama i don’t see it as the problem for him… on the other hand mackenzies chart highlights saturn in cap in a challenging way – very challenging and may cover these issues i’ve written about here on the placement…
t square with sun at top and uranus/chiron at bottom.. 2 t squares in her chart – life is not a cakewalk.. the sun/saturn relationship becomes critical as they are the focal points to both t squares.. they are in a 45 degree relationship, but by sign – scorpio to capricorn – one of friendship.. i imagine this was the way she resolved the conflict in her world – by thinking it was a friendship of sorts, even though the dynamics are all so fucked up… anyway – interesting to consider without needing to talk about lilith of black moon or whatever..

My ex-boss produced records and was with the Beach Boys for a few years (did the Holland Album)back when, so I would consider him quite knowledgeable when it comes to all that music encompasses.
His partner was a musician, and the villa was filled with music, musicians, in and out of their recording studio.
I have no musical abilities at all, I just like (love) what music I do, the same with art works.
When I was visiting AZ. years back I heard a song, “Drops of Jupiter” by Train.
I was crazy about it, and when I returned home I asked my bosses if they’d heard it yet?
Neither one had, they then listened to it on their computer and kind of poo-pooed it, but we had a lot of fun with it,they, singing it to me whenever they passed by.
Months later it received a Grammy Award for “Best Rock Song.”…. we all had some good laughs, ya just never know.

This story which was sourced to the People’s Daily Online relies on unnamed sources referred to as a “British-based media agency” and “an American official.” Also, although the story is in a lot of places, they all refer to the People’s Daily article. After a quick search, I was not able to find any other news agencies that have reported the story. So, there’s not enough evidence yet that the story is true.
And, since I posted the link to the story, I found another article that contains a named source. The U.S. Army’s “Stars and Stripes” quotes NATO spokesman Lt. Col. Todd Breasseale as saying:
“We have absolutely nothing that leads us to believe that this tale could be even remotely based in reality.”

I think there are people with this placement that look for a father figure. That’s because one of the functions of Saturn is to restrict or deny, which in Capricorn could relate to a fulfilling relationship with the father.
But I personally would not make a blanket statement about it because in astrology we’re working with archetypes or universal motifs and patterns which manifest in a myriad of different ways. I was once told by a student that a particular aspect in my chart meant that I had a negative father. She was wrong. So, that’s why I say it’s true sometimes.
Saturn in Capricorn can also indicate a person being too deferential to power and status, to the establishment and who wants to be accepted by and a part of that. It can also manifest as fear of success. Obama’s relationship or lack of one with his dad is suggested by this placement, but also by his Sun square Neptune.
Yet another expression of this placement that I’ve seen is somebody whose father was rather provincial. Sun was also conjunct Saturn.

Your post has me thinking of them via astrology, having my 4th.H cusp at 21 Sag and 10th at 21 Gemini, the Cap/Cancer axis is present,along with Saturn conj. my Asc. by minutes.
Like many, my father played a dominate role in my life, and was told many a times that I was much like him.
I broke relations with my family when I moved away,and then spent quite a few years, becoming what I referred to as my own mother and father…especially the emotional independence of a male, whether father or husband and wanted to and did becoming financially independent of a male.
I truly believe that these were the years that eventually enabled me to return to the family fold, void of the old dynamics, and have a wonderful relationship with both parents, one of the here and now.
In their last years, I like many of us, became,along with my sister, their so-called parents,except she was never able,by no fault of her own ,to have a good relationship with our father.
She was also stuck right in the middle of all the flying debris between the parents, while I was off those years re-inventing myself..lol
I don’t know how much of a role our charts play in our parental connections verses our choices, all I know is that I was blessed to have it all turn out as it did.
Not so for my brother, and my sister has too many sad memories from our dad, and I can say that I feel there is no unfinished business with either one, and also they towards me when they passed on.
I’ve wondered if the jury is really in on which parent represents which house, 4th and 10th ? sometimes I’ve felt that they keep switching houses within our lifetime.
I do know that I chose my parents,(and they me?)so as time went on I grew to appreciate many experiences I had with them from a different perspective,a profound one.

The finance thing with males, comes from having a very wealthy paternal g’father, who fought with my father and his siblings all the time over money.

vermont calling 49 – thanks! i maintain those who don’t know much about music from a technical stand point are much quicker at picking out what works and what doesn’t.. i know it is a generalization, but i use my wife susan as a perfect example of this.. we have went to many different concerts or musical performances together and she is without fail bang on with her perceptions of the music and whether it is any good or not! she listens to different types of music then me, but i truly admire her insights.. some of the music she likes are people like jay mcshann, aretha franklin, jimmy scott, and stuff kinda like that… i actually like this stuff too, but it is not the first stuff i grab when i want to listen to something.. she quite enjoyed the new orleans music we heard including the more traditional styles which would include dixieland.. we did go to the preservation jazz hall a few times on her insistence and i was fine with that!
it is no surprise to me you had more clarity on the piece of music then your insider music biz friends.. i have seen this time and time again… another point which susan has made which i think is 100% accurate is if you see people having a good time, you have a good time… musicians are much more critical and it interferes with their enjoyment of it..
regarding your post 58 and 59- fascinating stuff – thanks for sharing! i am happy that you were able to get to that place with your folks.. many people don’t.. for the most part i was always on good terms with my parents.. i had a very close relationship with my father, but he died when i was still in my 20’s so never got to know him as an adult so much and i wish i could have… my mom and i were extremely close – too close! i had to move away and create some space and this helped.. we were very much alike – it seems this happens with the parent of the opposite sex and children a lot… i agree with your views on the 4th/10th house and which parent is which.. i think they can flip and really – this stuff is really about us and how we’ve internalized it, more then about our parents when we get old enough to recognize it.. that is how i see it anyway..money can get in the way of happiness. i have never understood how members of the same family get to a point of not being able to talk with others from the same family, but i have seen it a lot… i have a cousin who is completely estranged from her immediate family, but she connects with us – my brother and sister.. i find that all so incredibly sad when life is so short… i once had a girlfriend in my 20’s who had not seen her father since she was maybe 8 or 9 years old… he was an alcoholic living in the downtown eastside of vancouver.. well i convinced her i would like to meet him.. that was the beginning of a real friendship that had been missing in both of their lives that i was happy to witness.. unfortunately he got hit by a car about 10 years later, but it would have been really sad if she had not at least made that connection… same goes for all the people disconnected from their family as i see it.. life is too short to be stuck in some losing position or hanging onto a position that is unrewarding.. i know everyone has to work out things for themselves though!!

vermont calling – fascinating story of the bat in your house and the link you provided to bat symbolism.. when we lived out on the westcoast of the island in a small community west of victoria the cabin we lived in which we rented was right on the water, no electricity or running water, and bats flew around the cabin always when the sun would set.. they are a very secretive creature it seems, but i found that link with info really interesting to read..
i found a pic of where we lived by searching under sandcut creek.. the original name for the creek was sandstone, which is how i got the handle sandstone way back when at astrodatabank and etc… one of the reasons i think the bats liked the spot was it was hidden in darkness for much of the day and only in the evening would we get some sun! often in the summer the fog gathers in this area of the juan de fuca straight, so we don’t necessarily get even a sunset either! but in this pic no fog appears! the cabin in the pic is where i lived from 88 for about 15 years.. it was a good hour commute to victoria..
